2023 Home Projects

At the beginning of a new year, I enjoy creating lists of what I plan on accomplishing. The past several years home renovations and projects were not considered when creating those said lists. We find it valuable to get to know your home and its style before diving into major projects. Here is to a new year and the creation of our personalized home!
Primary Shower Room
The shower and toilet have already been replaced. In here we will simply add a fresh coat of paint and finishing touches.

Garden
Last year, we dedicated the back section of our property as a garden. I originally envisioned all raised garden beds, but we quickly ran out of time when it came needing to plant so we ended up with an in-ground garden. Raised beds are still on my radar for the perimeter of this space, along with a fence. Now it looks nothing like a garden with a huge pile of dirt in the middle. A section of our yard was dug up to run lines for our wood burner, so we dumped the topsoil here and will use it to fill the raised beds. This is a multi-phase project, so that's all this round entails.

Patio
The current back deck has become quite the hazard with railing falling off and screws coming out of the boards. We didn't utilize this space once last year for that reason. The deck will be removed and a concrete patio poured to make this space more practical and usable.

Front Porch
Last year, the landscaping was updated leading up to the porch, but not the entire porch itself. Railing is coming down, new sconces, door hardware, and a new ceiling to help open and brighten this space. The furniture was a family member's and I will also need to update the cushions to better suit the space.

Barn
The last of exterior projects is the barn. Our house originally had blue accents including a matching barn. We have since removed the blue on our house and want to refresh the barn. A fresh coat of paint, some exterior lights, and a new door are in store for this space.

Half Bathroom
The fun thing to do in our house is peel wallpaper that has a corner coming up. This bathroom is the only one on the main level and desperately needs attention. Peeling floor, poorly repaired hole in the wall, a toilet paper holder pulled out of the wall and half pulled off wall paper. The whole room is getting redone and I already have a mood board put together that I cannot wait to share!

Flooring
In true 90's fashion, we have pink carpet that hits you in the face as soon as you walk through the front door. We have debated on the flooring situation for quite some time, do we replace the carpet with carpet or install LVP? There are also beautiful hardwood floors that begin in the entryway then lead into the kitchen. Unfortunately the hardwood would either need refinished or we can install LVP on top of the existing flooring, which is what I'm leaning towards. I am really excited about this project, but also nervous because it's such a big one!
Family Room
New floors, remover border, chair rails then add picture molding, fireplace (?), change out window treatments, lighting and create storage . Most of the toys are kept in a bonus room upstairs, but we do keep a couple down here. Ideally I would like a place to tuck some things away. I picture a cute kid's corner on the left side where the little table is!
